It’s a Soul Thing
Dear Fellow Movement Birmingham Partners,
As you already know, Alabama Game Changers has been passionately working to address the needs of children with learning disabilities for over 8 years. Since the 2020 opening of our new medical-literacy clinic in Hoover, we have seen exponential growth and demand for services. We currently have a waiting list of over 80 children (many of whom have been waiting over a year) in need of services. While there are many circumstances that we cannot change (availability of the child for services, availability of instructors to provide services) there is one area that we can impact, financial assistance. We would like to invite you to join us in a fun opportunity to raise funds for those who desperately need services but are limited by financial constraints.
On May 19th , 2023, Alabama Game Changers and Samford University Wright Center will sponsor “It’s A Soul Thing” benefit concert featuring Season 5 American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks. Hailed as “part Stax, part Motown and part honky-tonk” by The New York Times, Hicks’ intoxicating blend of soul, blues, country, and rock ‘n’ roll quickly rendered him a household name as he progressed to the show’s record-breaking finale in 2006, a historic television event which drew an audience of more than 200 million viewers. Musical artist Trey Duncan will also be performing as our special guest. Proceeds from this concert event will benefit all children at AGC with a special emphasis on children of adoption and foster care. This population has more complex learning challenges and their intervention typically requires a greater length of time and expense to complete. AGC provides remediation of learning deficits in addition to building self-esteem, executive function skills and self-worth.
There are several ways that you can support this effort:
- Financial sponsorship or advertisement (see attached sponsorship and advertising options).
- Purchase tickets and attend the event. Encourage your staff to attend as well. It would be a fun staff night out after work on a Friday night! Concert will be over by 8:30, so plenty of time left to enjoy the weekend! For tickets go to www.Samford.edu\wrightcenter
- Help promote the event\video challenge – We are launching a promotional campaign in April which I would love for the leaders of each business\non-profit represented in Movement Birmingham to join. We will be collecting videos of various people from around Birmingham. In the video, you would say something like this “Hi I’m (name) with (insert business name). What are you doing May 19th? I think you need to be at the Taylor Hicks concert and help support the kids at Alabama Game Changers. Click on the link below and come join us”!
We will launch a new video each day on our social media pages. On your day, we would ask you to share on your social media as well. This will generate both interest in the concert as well as promote the businesses\non-profits in our collaborative. If you are willing and able to do this for us, let me know and I will make plans to get your video done.
Thank you all for any assistance you can provide. The Wright Center holds 2500 seats, so it is a great opportunity to reach the masses. However, we really need your help to fill it up!
